新西兰的高等教育机构包括大学、理工学院和教育学院。
新西兰大学的学位由新西兰大学校长委员会下设的学术委员会批准，而理工学院及极少数私立高等教育学校所授的文凭由新西兰资格认证局 (NZQA) 负责审批和监督。
