　　首先来看看书写须知。

　　最好的申请essay是全面展现你这个人，例如你曾受到过他人什么影响或者你曾如何影响过他人，所以你的essay主题不能让招生官在阅读的过程中猜测你是否不爱社交，自恋或者精神上有异常。

　　避免有争议的和极端的主题。即使你在写essay时注意平衡你的观点，但是essay里面也会包括部分招生官反对的观点。招生官非常看重你所写的essay内容，所以以下这些主题最好要避免：如政治、宗教、死刑、神创论/进化、堕胎、避孕、动物权利、克隆、非法活动(包括协助自杀/安乐死、恋童癖、贩卖人口、卖淫、掺杂、强奸、乱伦、虐待儿童、虐待老人、谋杀、饮酒年龄、醉酒驾驶和毒品合法化) 、全球变暖和气候变化、枪支管制、种族灭绝、基因工程、教育券、税收、性骚扰、青少年怀孕、道德和不道德、移民(无证或其他) 、否认大屠杀、仇恨犯罪、酷刑、最低工资、种族主义、核能、污染、性行为、心理健康、巫术、平权法案、欺凌、名人、核废料、警察暴力、死亡、离婚或Mac和PC的选择等话题。同时，你最好也不要写自己死掉的宠物。　　避免措辞诙谐和写诗，因为很难起作用。艺术存在于旁观者的眼中，所以你认为写的有趣的东西可能不会起到效果。

　　避免创造拼写，噱头和其他一切非传统形式的essay写作。这只会给招生官留下一个不好的印象。不要为了追求与众不同而表现的不同。　　不要把essay写得很枯燥。如果你的essay无法给招生官留下积极向上的好印象，那将淹没在一堆申请文书当中。不要写你的人生哲学，因此大部分17岁左右的少年并没有太多经历足够可以谈人生哲学。

　　不要在你的essay中重申你在其他申请材料里面表述过的信息。你最好也不要在essay中提及你的运动经历，不管你是否在一场比赛中取得了成功还是失败。　　公益旅行也不要出现在你的essay当中，例如在其他地区或国家帮助一些残疾人的旅行。大部分这样的经历写在essay中会显得很肤浅，这种经历缺乏深度，只会在某种程度上反映你的特权存在。

　　不要写任何反映你缺乏判断，不成熟，以自我为中心或缺乏同情心的内容，即使你想讨论你的成长过程。一旦你突出了你不好的一面，你很难扭转招生官的印象，千万不要表现得自己优越感很强。　　不要在essay中批评你所申请的大学，即使你提的是建设性意见。　　陈词滥调尽量减少，招生官希望能看到独一无二的essay。引用的话也要少写，招生官更在意你个人的观点。

　　在写essay的时候不要使用辞典，也不要让你的父母帮助你写essay。一定要在essay完成之后校对语法和拼写，因为没有什么能比拼写错误和语法错误给人留下更糟糕的印象。　　接着来看看书写常见错误。

　　1、对申请学校认知不多。　　

        有的学生在选择学校和专业的时候没有仔细考虑自身的情况，甚至有的抱着非高校不读的想法，但是也没有仔细去咨询了解对方学校的情况。因此对于大多学校都会提出的问题——why choose this school，学生不能说出学校的大致情况、特点和优势，回答时敷衍了事，只说出最表层的一些东西。回答不到位就暴露出自己的态度，很难看出申请人对学校的兴趣和向往程度。

　　2、回答问题时没有正确审题。　　
 
        一些在思想上很懒惰的学生总以为各个学校问的题目差不多就可以互相借用，没有认真审题就把申请学校A的套用在学校B上;还有的学生审题不到位，在内容上出现了很多与主题或者申请不相干的部分。

　　3、找不到思路，不会转换。　　
   
        有的学生想考察学生的思维灵活度，想知道学生的专业水平或是人际交往的态度等，提出的问题都是很简单的。例如芝加哥大学：请比较苹果和橘子，这个题目就不应该只写两种水果的区别什么的，可以将两种水果拟人化，各种水果代表哪两种人等等。总之，思维不要太死板，学会转换。

　　4、词句使用不恰当。　　

        大多英语水平有待提高的学生要么用词太过简单，要么总是喜欢用晦涩、深奥的来让录取官认为自己的具有多大的词汇量。前者会使文章显得没有一点深度，后者容易使文章看着不顺畅，读着拗口。所以，在写作时首先要有条理表明自己的看法，其次使文章读起来语句通顺，再使用一些有真正意义和内涵的语句。

　　5、文章呈现的语气让人难以接受。　　

        有的文章语气平平毫无生气;有的过于激烈，为了显示自己是对的，极力鼓吹自己的看法或价值观;有的一味夸对方学校是多么地有名气，甚至用哀怜的语气博得录取官的同情。这都是不可取的，适当地赞扬即可，尽量使文章读起来有生机活力，做到态度理性冷静客观。

　　6、语法拼写等小错误。
